CBD - Stress Relief, Pain & Sleep Support

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Brief History of CBD

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a compound found in hemp and marijuana plants. The use of hemp for medicinal purposes dates back thousands of years, with evidence of hemp-based treatments being used in ancient China, Egypt, and Greece. However, the discovery of CBD and its effects are a more recent development.

In 1940, CBD was first isolated from hemp by a team of researchers led by Dr. Roger Adams at the University of Illinois. In the 1960s and 1970s, further research was conducted into the effects of CBD and other cannabinoids, leading to a better understanding of the endocannabinoid system and its role in regulating various bodily functions.

In recent years, CBD has become increasingly popular as a natural treatment for various health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, pain, and sleep problems. The legalization of hemp and hemp-derived products, including CBD, with the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, has further fueled the growth of the CBD industry.

Wellness Benefits of CBD

Unlike THC, CBD (Cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound. Some wellness benefits from using CBD include;

  • Pain relief: CBD has been shown to help alleviate chronic pain and reduce inflammation.

  • Anxiety and depression: CBD has been shown to have an anxiolytic effect and may help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

  • Sleep: CBD has been shown to improve sleep and treat insomnia.

  • Neuroprotective effects: CBD has been shown to have neuroprotective effects and may help protect the brain from damage.

  • Anti-inflammatory effects: CBD has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and may help reduce symptoms of various inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease.

How to take CBD

There are several ways to take CBD, including:

  • Oral consumption: CBD oil or tinctures can be taken sublingually (under the tongue) or added to food or drinks.

  • Topical application: CBD can be applied topically in the form of creams, lotions, balms, and salves.

  • Inhalation: CBD can be inhaled as a vapor through e-cigarettes or vaporizers.

  • Supplements: CBD can be consumed in the form of capsules, gummies, and other edibles.

  • Sublingual strips: Thin, dissolvable strips that dissolve under the tongue and provide a convenient alternative to oral consumption.

It is important to note that different methods of consumption have different onset times, durations, and strengths, and the best method for each individual may depend on their specific needs and preferences.

Our Thoughts on CBD

We recognize that for some, there may be a lingering stigma behind the use of CBD as CBD is derived from the hemp plant, which is a close relative of marijuana. Some people may associate CBD with marijuana and its use as a recreational drug. I personally have found CBD to be a "lifesaver" as I find it supports with natural anxiety relief and is a great option to support with calming my mind and falling into a restful sleep. With that being said, it is important to talk to your Doctor before taking any new natural supplements to ensure it is the right fit for you.
